Overview

Occupational therapists (OTs) specializing in pelvic health are uniquely positioned to deliver essential care to individuals across all stages of life, enhancing function and overall quality of life. With their in-depth training in the biopsychosocial model, OTs bring a unique perspective to addressing pelvic health issues that impact daily routines and activities at home, school, work, and in the community.

Their strong foundation in psychosocial care enables OTs to provide meaningful support, particularly for clients navigating sexual health concerns, trauma, mental health challenges, or emotional well-being.

Therapy may include breathwork, sensory modulation techniques, mindfulness, and graded exposure to help patients reconnect with their bodies and manage pain. Additionally, OTs support emotional regulation and incorporate therapeutic exercises to improve core strength, coordination, and functional movements.

The important role of OTs in pelvic health helps to ensure opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Pelvic health often involves complex issues that require integrated care, and OTs play a critical role in addressing the multifaceted needs of these patients.
