Overview

This live online workshop is intended for healthcare and wellness professionals who work with pregnant individuals and are looking to educate clients and their birth partners to advocate for themselves and have a positive and supported birth experience.

Participants will come away with a framework to help their client's partners become active participants in the birth process. 


Learning Objectives

In this workshop, we will:

  1. Learn how to educate the clients to recognize and address different nervous system states in the birthing person, including fight, flight, freeze, and fawn.

  2. Learn how to educate the birth partner to positively impact the birthing person’s pain experience.

  3. Learn how to concisely explain the stages of labour, pushing, and birth to clients.

  4. Learn how to teach comfort measures for birth and labour positions for medicated and physiologic birth.

  5. Learn how to teach the evidence around positions for and types of pushing. 

  6. Provide a variety of ways to help your clients/patients advocate for themselves during pregnancy and birth including educating about different birth interventions and educating clients on advocacy and informed decision-making strategies.

  7. Discuss current birth trends and myths about birth.

The instructors
Anita Lambert
Reg. Physiotherapist - Perinatal, Pelvic & Orthopaedic, Clinical Pilates Instructor, Cert. Acupuncture

Anita Lambert is a pelvic health and orthopaedic physiotherapist with a focus on perinatal care. She’s the owner of Holistic Health Physiotherapy, the creator of the Bump to Birth Method, cohost of the To Birth & Beyond podcast, mentor and coach to pelvic health physiotherapists around the world and mom of 2 energetic little ones.

Growing up as a ballet dancer and athlete, Anita was always fascinated with how the body moved and healed. Her love for dance and sport led her to become the team therapist for the McMaster University women’s rugby and basketball teams, and later, President of Healthy Dancer Canada and an on site physiotherapist for Canada’s Ballet Jörgen.

Five years into her physiotherapy career, her clinical practice niched down to focus on pregnancy, pelvic health, birth prep and postpartum recovery while still working with dancers and athletes of all levels during these stages of life.

Anita is passionate about helping pregnant clients connect more with their body including pelvic floor plus help them stay active during pregnancy while providing evidence based birth education and strategies as they prepare for an informed and empowered birth.

She is equally passionate about empowering her postpartum clients to navigate their recovery and return to activities they love including all forms of exercise, sports and dance without pain and pelvic floor symptoms whether they are 10 days or 10 years post birth.

Having worked as a physiotherapist for nearly 15 years, she enjoys coaching and mentoring pelvic health physiotherapists who are diving into the area of perinatal care to help them increase their skill set and confidence in this area as well as to build a thriving clinical practice.

Outside of work, you can find Anita strength training, practicing yoga or Pilates or enjoying the outdoors and spending quality time with her husband, daughter and son.


Robyn Synnott
Pelvic Health + Orthopedic Physiotherapist Yoga Teacher CYA-E-RYT500

Robyn Synnott is a pelvic health and orthopedic physiotherapist with a passion for trauma-informed care. She owns Ebb + Flow Wellness in Burlington where her practice has a focus on perinatal care and care for people with a vagina throughout their life. She is a CYA-E-RYT500 yoga teacher and has unique training in nursing support, and as a physio-doula. Throughout almost 15 years as a physiotherapist, she has also pursued extensive training in chronic/persistent pain, stress and trauma, nervous system regulation, mindfulness, communication, and advocacy.

Robyn aspires to help people to learn to trust and appreciate their body, to empower them to take charge of their health and wellness, and to focus their treatment on what is important to them. She strives to approach all her interactions with a compassionate curiosity and a trauma-sensitive perspective. She has a passion for helping people in the perinatal period of their lives to feel confident in the strength that their body holds during pregnancy, birth, nursing, and parenting.

In recent years, Robyn has brought an enthusiastic focus to teaching and mentoring other physiotherapists and health care professionals. She has created and teaches “Becoming a Resilient Practitioner with a Trauma-Sensitive Practice” to help other practitioners learn how to confidently integrate trauma-informed care into their practice, and to learn more about themselves while doing it.

Robyn enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and daughter. She loves to explore the outdoors either by hiking, spending time by the water, gardening, and/or traveling.
