Case: 

This month’s case is a 44-year-old passionate golfer with persistent low back and buttock pain who recently underwent a left hip FAI and labral tear repair surgery.  How do we manage goals and expectations as he returns to the links?
This case will be presented online on Tuesday April 5, 2022 at 8 pm EST.

This online education course for physiotherapists is presented by the Adjunct Education Committee of the National Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

Kubet Weston, BScPT 
Kubet graduated with a Physical Therapy degree from the University of Toronto in 1997. As a  member of the Canadian Rowing Team, she won four World Championship medals. After being on the Canadian Olympic team in 2000 in Sydney, she lived and worked in Australia, where she developed a keen interest in integrating Rehab Pilates and Physio.

Dr. Ryan Degen, MD, MSc, FRCSC 
Dr. Ryan Degen is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in athletic injuries of the hip, shoulder, and knee. Dr. Degen pursued a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. During his time in New York, he served as an Assistant Team Physician for the New York Rangers (NHL) and New York Red Bulls (MLS), gaining expertise in the on- and off-field treatment of various athletic injuries. His research interests include hip impingement and resultant joint biomechanics, and clinical outcomes following surgical treatment of hip injuries.

David Lindsay BHMS BPhty MSc
 David is an Australian-trained physiotherapist. He was the Head Physiotherapist at the University of Calgary Sport Medicine Centre. David is a co-founder of the Active Hip Centre in Calgary, where he continues to be involved in active clinical and research practice. He has been teaching post-graduate courses on hip and golf injury rehab (FitfourGolf) since 1996. He has published over 35 peer-reviewed research manuscripts and contributed a chapter on golf injuries in David Magee’s latest book. David has been collaborating with hip surgeons and sport medicine specialists to develop a highly specialized hip differential diagnosis and rehabilitation program that has undergone scientific scrutiny and clinical success.

Audrey Long BScPT, Dip MDT, Clinical Specialist MSK
Audrey graduated with a BScPT from UWO in 1984. She attained her Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) in 1993 and has been an Instructor with the McKenzie Institute Canada since 1997.  In 1996 she completed a Certificate in Adult Education from the University of Calgary. In 2012, Audrey received the designation Clinical Specialist in MSK.  Audrey has published extensively on MDT and continues to be involved in MDT research.  Her paper “Does it matter which exercise” published in 2004 is considered one of the key MDT research papers. She has previously been a Reviewer for the Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy and Clinical consultant on University of Alberta Masters students’ projects.
