Description

Hip impingement, often referred to as femoro-acetabular impingement syndrome or FAIS, has gained increased awareness, understanding and controversy amongst medical and rehabilitation professionals over the past 20 years. This seminar will discuss the current understanding related to the implications of this condition to help better understand management options.

Learning Objectives

  1. What role does the acetabular labrum play in normal hip function.
  2. What is Femoro-acetabular Impingement (FAI), how does it occur and how can it affect articular or soft tissue structures around the hip leading to FAIS?
  3. How does FAIS present radiologically and clinically?
  4. Is conservative treatment a viable option for FAIS and what does it involve?
  5. At what point should arthroscopic surgery be considered?
  6. How does conservative versus surgical management of FAIS compare?
