The Seniors’ Health Division and the Neurosciences Division are pleased to offer this informative webinar focused on improving function in individuals with Parkinson’s disease and older adult populations.

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the current climate of falls globally, where falls are likely to happen, and what is often missing in falls training.
  2. Learn how you can evaluate past falls or losses of balance to help individualize treatment.
  3. Understand what the Functional Movement and Falls Training approach looks like and why we use it.
  4. Understand how to start teaching clients with varying levels of function and co- morbidities how to fall properly.

 

Instructor Biography

Naomi Casiro BSc (Kin), MPT is the founder of NeuroFit BC & NeuroFit Academy. She is a physiotherapist and educator with experience working in both public and private healthcare settings. Her clinical practice focuses primarily on treating individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and older adults at risk of falls.
 
Naomi is passionate about helping healthcare professionals build confidence in working with neurological and older adult populations through practical, evidence-based education that can be directly applied in the clinic. She created the Functional Movement & Falls Training treatment approach which has been taught both in-person and via her online educational platform, NeuroFit Academy, to healthcare professionals across Canada, the United States, and internationally.
 
Naomi is also an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia, where she teaches future physiotherapists about functional movement and exercise based falls rehabilitation. Outside of work, Naomi can be found spending time with her three children, or exploring the world of exercise through calisthenics, weightlifting and swimming.

We are a national organization operated by volunteers with a passion for neurological physiotherapy. We connect physiotherapists working in neurological settings to learning opportunities and a community of colleagues across the country.

The Neurosciences Division (NSD) is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA).

Our Aim is to assist neuroscience physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants in enabling their clients to reach their full potential and participation in their communities through assessment, treatment, assistance, consultation, education, and research.


Seniors' Health Division

The Seniors’ Health Division (SHD) is a special interest group within the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. SHD is committed to providing members with services related to older adult health and physiotherapy practice.

It is comprised of physiotherapists from across Canada who work with older adults in a variety of practice settings, including acute geriatric care, geriatric rehabilitative and restorative units, long term care settings, community based and home care settings.

SHD is a member of The International Association of Physical Therapists working with Older Persons.

Vision of the Seniors' Health Division: Older Canadians are moving, moving more and moving better with the help of physiotherapists.

Mission of the Seniors' Health Division: To support our members in providing excellent physiotherapy care to optimize the independence and quality of life of older adults.
