Overview

A concussion is a complex injury that can have extensive consequences in regards to symptoms and function. Having a solid understanding of the many systems affected by concussion is integral for OTs to best support clients. In this course, we explore the role and value of occupational therapy in concussion management and cover in-depth multicomponent OT assessment of concussion.

 

Learning Objectives

  2. Understand the scope of concussion assessment including identifying deficits in the function of all important domains
  3. Know when to refer to other professions for further assessment
  4. Able to apply principles of assessment in formulating a treatment plan

Course Length

9 hours of recorded lecture plus more time for other resource reviews and discussion.

 

Audience

This online course is open to all health care professionals but specifically addresses the needs of OTs. Other healthcare professionals will still benefit from the knowledge, techniques, and systems shared in this course.

The instructors
Devon Cochrane
BSc, MOT

Devon was born and raised in Victoria where he has grown deep roots within the community. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree from UVic in 2010 and a Master of Occupational Therapy degree from UBC in 2014. He spent most of his past working life before becoming an OT supporting children and youth living with a variety of special needs. Prior to joining Tall Tree, Devon previously worked as a community occupational therapist and case manager supporting people with musculoskeletal injury, concussion (and other brain injury), chronic pain, mental health issues, wheelchair and equipment prescription, ergonomics, functional assessments and assistive technology needs.

Over the past years as an OT he has developed experience and a special interest in supporting people with concussion related issues. Combining a keen drive to advance clinical practice and a desire to enhance the quality of treatment for concussion, Devon has come to Tall Tree to help build the best concussion program in Victoria.

Devon has taken post-professional education in concussion management including Evidence In Motion’s 12-month concussion management certification program to advance his clinical competency. He concentrates on offering a fun, creative and supportive environment to encourage success for people of any age. He has experience with pediatric, youth and adult therapy.
