Add to this, constant changes in the Canadian healthcare marketplace, an aging demographic, the emergence of social media and social capital, the shift to interdisciplinary models, and consolidation of clinical networks, it is no wonder accurately valuating a clinic today can seem like an impossible task.

If you have been thinking about buying, starting, growing, merging or selling your business and want to maximize the value, this introductory session is for you. In this workshop, we will cover the basics of business value, valuation and the sale process itself. This session will help you to build the skills, confidence and basic competence owners need in this relevant area, as well as providing additional resources for continued learning.

This session will include interactive lecture, case studies, and an open question and answer period.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the principles and processes of clinic valuation and apply these to their current or potential business;
  2. Distinguish market value from strategic value;
  3. Differentiate the most common models of acquisition and the pros/cons of each;
  4. Implement strategies to maximize the value of their business to a potential buyer.

SPEAKER BIOS

Wendy Coombs, Physiotherapist, BScPT, BScPsych

Wendy Coombs is the current owner of Momentum Health, a growing group of inter-collaborative multidisciplinary rehabilitation clinics in Calgary Alberta, Canada. She is the education co-chair of the Private Practice Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and the co-learning chair for the Entrepreneurs Organization. Previously she was an owner and CEO of Advantage Health. She has grown twelve separate businesses from a single sole charge physiotherapy clinic into medical centers offering physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, psychology, acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, kinesiology, personal training, and retail goods. She has developed standalone rehabilitation centers as well as clinics integrated into medical centers offering family medicine, dental, and optical services. She is a prior Dale Carnegie trainer. She enjoys educating and mentoring physiotherapy private business owners from across Canada. She has been a member of the Entrepreneur’s Organization since 2005. She has two Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta. She was a finalist for the RBC 2009 Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Award in the Trailblazer category.

Tanja Yardley currently the Vice President for CBI Health Group in British Columbia and past co-owner of Rehabilitation in Motion, Pro-Motion Consulting Ltd. (Multimedia Training Resources) and Ergonomics in Motion (Occupational Health and Safety Consulting). She previously chaired the Business Affairs Committee and served as Vice President on the Board of the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia and she continues to serve on the executive of the Private Practice Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.   She is the creator of the Private Practice Toolkit and consults with international business owners about a broad range of business topics. She oversees the operations of 47 interdisciplinary clinics, providing mentorship and coaching to clinicians and managers who want to start, grow and sustain successful private practices.

The PPD education workshops, webinars, meet-ups and more will train you and your team how to become practice experts. Our mission is to provide an interface to engage, educate and elevate the physiotherapy enterprise.
